Liberate Cosmetic Surgery aims to Highlight Cosmetic Surgery Industry Issues

Liberate Cosmetic Surgery hopes to raise awareness of some of the most important issues around health, beauty and confidence of cosmetic surgery industry through the launch of a series of new initiatives.

Beware 'white-coat deception' with unqualified plastic surgeons

Like many women who seek a little surgical help to improve their appearance, California stay-at-home mom thought nothing to go back under the knife to replace leaking breast implants.

Unfortunately, however, Dinora Rodriguez did what experts say is a dangerous and increasingly common mistake: In the recommendation of her friend, chose a doctor without checking his credentials to ensure it was board-certified and properly trained in plastic surgery.

It was not.

The unqualified surgeon botched, so the job Rodriguez, made headlines for his painful deformity that left her with: "uniboob," known medical conditions such symmastia.

The 40-year-old woke up from what should be a simple process to find that the new implant was joined at the waist, creating a large mass and causes excruciating pain. If this were not bad enough, Rodriguez also discovered that, without its consent, adventurous doctor had taken it upon himself to "fix" a scar near her eyes, giving her a lift which has prevented it from to close her eyes.

Experts around the country believe that, as non-board-certified doctor was not trained, did not know how to perform properly or in the process, leaving Rodriguez with constant medical issues. While implants may be decided - albeit with considerable expense - the eyes can not.

The scary part is that Rodriguez is far from alone in trusting the wrong doctor.

Most people are signing up for plastic surgery procedures performed by physicians with little or no background, training or certification in the field.

"There are many scams out there," said Dr. Malcolm Z. Roth, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. "There are dermatologists, internists, pediatricians, you name it, they never held a knife to their education, but in their own office, is chief of surgery."

The ASPS is so concerned about this growing trend has a name for it: white-coat cheating - where, in a society that has long been known in the medical profession, people think that just because someone wears a white coat is up to any surgical work.

Gujarat HC gives spilt verdict on Gujarat lokayukta case
